Cruise: Holland America - Oosterdam

Edie and I flew to Seattle on August 23, 2008 and boarded the Holland America ship Oosterdam for a Saturday-to-Saturday cruise to Alaska. We visited Juneau, the Hubbard Glacier, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria (BC).The weather started cold and rainy improving some as the trip progressed but remained very overcast throught.

We'll probably wait for global warming to really kick in before going back.

Couples Negril, Jamaica

After a one year hiatus we once again traveled for our wedding anniversary (our 5th). This year we went to Jamaica which was the first time there for the both of us. Stayed at Couples Negril (an All-Inclusive resort). It was very nice and we highly recommend it. A good variety of good food and top shelf drinks. Plus they even have Miller Lite!

Cruise: Royal Caribbean - Grandeur of the Seas

Nine-Day Caribbean Cruise from Baltimore (November)

We wanted to get away for a little while before year-end so we decided to skip airport hassles and take a cruise out of Baltimore. We left late Friday afternoon on Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas and returned the following Sunday after stops in Miami, Key West, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Port Canaveral.

The ship was very nice though a little smaller than our previous cruise. Food was good if not spectacular and our dinner companions were a very entertaining group of people.

TahoeLake Tahoe, NV (and Napa) 2006

We were looking to do a little trip to Orlando or elsewhere to get some preseason golf in but a friend of Chuck's sister offered us a condo in Tahoe for a week in March. We accepted (thanks Trish!).

We arrived on Saturday and skied Heavenly on Sunday. Tuesday morning we drove to Napa and spent the evening there. Back to Tahoe on Wednesday. Snowmobiling on Thursday and snow boarding (first time for both of us) at Alpine Meadows on Friday. Back home on Saturday.

In May 2005, Edie and I took a cruise with Edie's sister and brother-in-law Roni and Jeff. We flew to Puerto Rico and boarded the Carnival Destiny. Stops included St. Thomas, Barbados, and Aruba.

AfricaAfrica 2004

In the fall of 2004 we took a once in a lifetime adventure to Africa. We flew from Philadelphia to Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro. We spent a week in Kilimanjaro climbing the mountain. We then drove around Tanzania for a week visiting various parks/reserves. We then flew to Nairobi where we set off for a week of visiting parks/reserves in Kenya.

Read the Journals

During the trip I kept a daily journal. Not until I began to transcribe it did I realize how much I had written. So I chose to break it into two parts. The first part covers getting to Africa and our time in Kilimanjaro including the climb. Here is the link to Part I: Getting to Africa and Climbing Kilimanjaro. Enjoy.

Part II of the journal covers the Safaris in Tanzania, Kenya, and the trip home. Since I went through the effort of building a new web page for this stuff maybe I'll find the time to finish transcribing this journal in the near future.

Watch the Videos

We shot some video footage starting the night before our Kilimanjaro climb all the way through our time in Kenya. Click here to be taken to the videos page.

RomeRome, Italy 2003

We took a three day trip to Rome over the Valentine's Day weekend in 2003. We stayed at a nice bed & breakfast near The Spanish Steps (great location). Spent a day at Vatican City, another at the Coliseum and Forum, and a third doing various other things like museums and The Pantheon.

ArubaAruba 2003

We took a seven day trip to Aruba to celebrate our first anniversary in 2003. We stayed at Bucuti Beach Resort located on Eagle Beach. The resort is nice and the beach is one of the best anywhere. While there we horse back rode, scuba dived, ocean kayaked, and relaxed. We later returned for a day during a cruise and would go back any time!

SydneyAustralia 2002

Shortly after our wedding we left for our honeymoon in the Land Down Under. After a short layover in LA we headed for three weeks in Australia. We started in Sydney, then to Adelaide, and then to Kangaroo Island. From Kangaroo Island we flew to Cairns for one night and then boarded the SuperSport for a week of diving the Great Barrier Reef. The boat dropped us off on Lizard Island for a flight back to Cairns. We spent a few days there and then back to Lizard Island for a few wonderful days. Then back to Cairns, then Sydney, then home.

WeddingLas Vegas - October 25, 2002

After originally planning a local wedding, with a bachelor/bachelorette weekend in Vegas ahead of that, plans changed and we decided to use the Vegas weekend for the wedding itself.

We were married at The Little Chapel of the West, drove around Red Rock Canyon for a while, and had dinner at Emeril's Delmonico Steakhouse at the Ventian. The day really could not have worked out better.

SF 2002San Francisco/Napa 2002

Our first visit to the San Francisco area together.

Shortly after arriving we took an early evening tour of Alcatraz. Adding to the mood was a driving thunder and rain storm. We also visited Napa Valley and Muir Woods.

EngagementLas Vegas 2001

I planned our first trip together to Vegas with a little surprise--a private helicopter ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon where I proposed!

The photo to the right is of a reenactment just a few seconds after the real event. That night we had dinner with friends and hiked through Red Rock Canyon the next day.

I also sprung for first-class plane tickets on the way home.

ParisParis, France 2001

My mother (Bronie), my sister (Deb), and I took a short trip to France in October of 2001. That trip will probably be one of my lasting memories of my mother. To the left is my mother and me in front of Notre Dame.

August 2001, Edie and I took our first trip together, destination: Punta Cana. It was a great week, we probably will never have better tans until we retire.
